My Story
I make contemporary hand thrown stoneware and porcelain for functional and decorative use. More than 15 years as a graphic designer generated a passion for form and colour. With design as my background I meet the world of ceramics with a pure and simple style. My pieces can be described as uncomplicated, functional and colourful.
From my studio in Kinsale I make hand thrown porcelain and stoneware. My ceramics are unique and consciously crafted to be functional, colourful and contemporary, made to be part of your home and daily rituals. Inspired by coastal colours and the vivid Irish hedgerows. I like to think my pottery celebrates our natural environment in a contemporary design.
Stoneware.
This pottery collection showcases vibrant, hand-thrown pieces using flecked stoneware, when fired the iron particles in the clay reveals in a dappling of freckles under the satin matte glazes. The combination of both textured clay and satin glazes results in a tactile finish that feels comforting to hold in your hands. I love to experiment with various shapes and sizes while staying true to my signature style of clean lines and a bold color palette. Recently, I've started blending stoneware and porcelain clays. The smooth white consistency of porcelain adds an extra depth to the flecked stoneware and enhances the overall vibrancy of the colourful glazes I use.
Porcelain.
I work with Ming porcelain. It is exceptionally smooth and fires to a pure, radiant white, providing an ideal canvas for decorating. After allowing each piece to dry slowly, they are hand-painted with coloured slips and fired at 1,000 degrees celsius. Once glazed on the interior with a thin layer of clear gloss, each piece undergoes a final firing to complete the process.
